Fans of Downton Abbey can rejoice as the franchise’s final installment, Downton Abbey 3, has finally received its official trailer. The extremely successful British historical drama series that chronicles the complicated yet expansive story of the Crawley family has so far spawned six seasons of television and two feature-length films. However, as with all good things, Downton Abbey is also coming to an end, with a third upcoming movie set to draw curtains on the series. Titled Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the movie will hit theatres in September 2025 and has now acquired its first trailer at the ongoing CinemaCon.
CinemaCon’s Downton Abbey 3 trailer teases the trilogy’s grand finale
The Universal CinemaCon presentation has unveiled the primary trailer of Downton Abbey 3, albeit exclusively to the attendees of the renowned pop-culture event.
As described by ScreenRant’s Mansoor Mithaiwala, the clip opens with the Crawleys traveling to someplace on a horse track. Then, the voice of Jim Carter’s Mr. Carson is heard, who declares, “Welcome to 1930,” confirming a two-year time jump from the second film.
Furthermore, Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary and Laura Carmichael’s Edith occupy several subsequent sequences before the snippet shifts focus to the Downton Abbey establishment. One by one, all the leading characters make their way into the historical building, with Lady Mary catching all eyes due to her all-red attire.
After showcasing a series of celebratory moments, the Downton Abbey 3 trailer concludes with Hugh Bonneville’s Robert Crawley planting a kiss on his hand and placing it on the beloved country estate. While plot details regarding the film currently remain under wraps, the gesture showcased by Bonneville’s character seems to indicate a bittersweet ending for the Crawley family.
Helmed by Simon Curtis, the ultimate edition of the franchise will see several of the original cast members, including Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Allen Leech, Robert James-Collier, and Jim Carter, among others, reprising their roles. Downton Abbey 3 is presently on track to premiere on the big screens on September 12, 2025.
